It’s so simple – so ingenious! To clean you simple roll the top to the floor and say goodbye to the stinky winkys?
The internal mechanism deposits the clumped waste into the waste tray, which you then slide out and empty. Your cat can always have clean litter – which will make your cat puurrrrr!

I would describe this cat box with words like- LOVE_LOVE- FUN- easy, ETC ETC….
When I bought the first one, I saved the receipt. I thought for $30 I am taking it back if it doesnt work like a dream. I also gave it to my mom as XMAS gift, so I wanted to make her test it out. When we first got Ragdolls cats for each other as XMAS gifts, we agreed on loving the cats but hating the cat box.
We even tried the automatic cleaning ones and took them back.
This cat box would be worth $100 in my opinion. I cant believe how easy it is to use, less then 10 seconds to cleans the litter box, no removing the lid. Throw away the scoops as you will never need it once you own this cat box. No smell, no bags, no mess. Even for someone with a bad back it would only require bending over. You roll it upside down, and the cleaning is done.
You slide out the drawer and the solied litter is ready to goto the trash can. The only thing I could think people may need to adjust themselves to is using minimal amount of litter. Just fill the main section with 3-4 inches of litter. Dont try to even it out to fill up the right side of the box.
Since I have gotten one for my mom, I purchased one. 4 other people I have demonstrated my cat box too, have also purchased one and they say they love it!!!
Go get one today!!
GOING ON 1 Year- I still love this cat box. I have encouraged at least 10 people to purchase one this year. Important note I have to mention, reguarding the clips that hold this together.
I have never had a problem with my clips, I have only unclipped mine about 4 times to really clean the grate inside. 3 people I know called and said they had a mess going when cleaning Omega. I figured it out for them instantly, at the time of thier purchase Of Omega, someone stole the clip!! We went to 2 PETCO’s asking for the clips to hold the Omega together, none of the Omegas in thier store had clips. Be careful whn you go to purchase and make sure the Omega has 3 clips.
If you put the box together right, the loose litter flows through the screen as you roll the box to the right; keep rolling the box and the clumps go on over the top of the screen into the open top of the collection box. Ingeniously simple! (For those who think the CLUMPS need to go through the screen: look at it again. It’s probably just a matter of flipping the screen so that it goes from the edge of the collection box downward to the bottom, not upward. Leaving the top of the collection box uncovered, at the top edge of the screen.)
Some hints: 1) When you roll the box upright again, give it a good shake to the right, or roll it part way to the left and back upright, to bring the litter back into the potty chamber. 2) If your floor space is limited, scoot the box leftward as you roll it to the right. As for the litter, there is no magic height the litter has to be in the potty chamber; I don’t know how some could find this a problem. 3) To fill the box, tilt it backward and pour in the litter. To empty it, tilt it forward over a trash receptacle.
As for the quality of the box, it’s just fine; any better quality and it would be too heavy for me to use, being up in my years. The latches that hold the top and bottom of the box together could be stronger, but face it, how often will you need to open it up? After being in use for two months, there is nothing sticking to the box yet to clean up, and so no reason to open it–maybe this won`t be true with all litters. Based on recommendations, I have only used World`s Best clumping litter; it lasts a l-o-n-g time because not much is caught up in the clumps, and what is left is still clean, not like some I`ve used, where fouled or wet bits fall away from the clumps. The regular litter boxes get dirty above the litter line, but that hasn’t happened yet with the Omega boxes–must have something to do with the shape…
If the latches don’t latch smoothly, don’t put undue pressure on them, just check that they are lined up straight and the box rims are tightly together, and look to see if there is a little tag of plastic keeping the latches from moving well, and take it off with a paring knife or pocket knife.
I got the bigger size from PetSmart for my larger cat. I left the old litter box there until he got used to the new one, but he never again set foot in the old box! I got a regular size box, from PetCo, for my smaller, blind kitty so she could have it in her favorite area, but my big cat uses that regular-size one just as often as he uses the bigger one!
I LOVE it!
Yes! It does work. I have one and will buy another!! I have 5 cats and have 5 boxes. One automatic and two siftters and this one also a regular one. I am going to change over to these. The catch on using these boxes are TAKE YOUR TIME rolling them and I use the corn, Worlds Greastest Cat Litter and it works great. But it has taken my cats about 2-3 weeks to get used to it. I mixed the litters the first 2 weeks and than increased to just corn litter. But I don’t mind changing the boxes now.
I just adopted a rescue Siamese cat and did research on litter boxes and kitty litter before buying one. The Omega Paw self-cleaning litter box got such rave reviews and the price was reasonable, I went ahead and got one.
Bringing it home, I wasn’t too thrilled with the construction on the box – it seems a bit cheap. I also thought that perhaps the surface area would be too small for my new cat. The strainers took up a 1/3 of the area of the litter box and now I wondered if my new kitty would have enough room to work with. But I put my thoughts aside and decided to give this crazy box a try before judging it and moving on to another brand litter box.
Well, when I cleaned out the litter box for the first time I was immediately impressed. All the clumped fecal and urine matter were neatly tossed into the drawer disposal box and now the litter area was all nice, clean, and level for the next time my kitty used it. AND IT WAS ALL SO EASY! I didn’t have to touch or get near anything yucky, the smell was minimal, and the disposal was so quick! Just pull out the disposal box and dump the contents into the garbage. Only the clumped litter is removed keeping all the good, clean litter in the box for reuse.
This is definitely got to be one of the smartest non-electrical gadget I’ve ever worked with. I had my doubts at first, but now that I’ve used it I’m sold on the Omega Paw self-cleaning litter box. It’s man powered – you roll it and pull out the drawer to clean. There are no batteries, no power cords, no moving parts. Just a cleverly built plastic box with a removable drawer. It’s cheap plastic and, yes, the locking pins look like they can break easily, but I will gladly buy another one and will gladly recommend litter box to friends and family.
This is SO much better than a regular litter tray and scoop. The first time I used it a little did spill, but that was because I didn’t realize there were 3 clips. I had fastened only 2. But once I had all 3 clips securely locked into place, there were no more spills. I love how easy and quick it is to clean the litter box now! Simply roll it like the instructions say. I pulled open the drawer and sure enough, the clumps were there. Dump them in the garbage pail and slide the drawer back inside. Easy!
I was afraid the two kittens would be afraid to use it, but within a couple of minutes after they saw it, they were exploring it and were using it to do their business.
I can highly recommend this product.
…I bought one for my mom’s kitten too. Easier and less expensive than most other boxes and works 100 times better. I use Tidy Cat litter for multiple cats and you’d never know I have cats in my small apartment because it works so well.
It’s so simple, yet genius. No more scooping, just a quick roll and you’re done! I have had the same box for 3 years now with two cats using the same box, and it’s still going strong, so I don’t agree with those reviewers that say it’s cheaply made. Mine seems to have held up just fine. A little litter does sometimes come out from between the top and the bottom halves when it’s rolled, but it’s just a little bit. I have to sweep around the litter box anyway just to get the litter my cats track out beyond the litter mat, so I don’t see what the big deal is. I’ll trade scooping for a little bit of sweeping any day.
I would recommend getting the larger version. I currently have the smaller version and my cats like it just fine, but since the sifting mechanism takes up a third of the box, I think the larger version would give them more room, especially since for some reason, even with other litter boxes around, they like to use the same box. You do have to watch how much litter you put in…put in too much and a lot of it ends up in the waste drawer. Just about 3 inches of litter is fine. Since it’s so easy to clean, I clean it more often and that and the cover really contain any smells from wafting out. I love this box!
Oh this kitty litter box just came too late. It is so simple. I use Priority Kitty litter as it clumps very well and it does not have any odor. Rolling the kitty litter box to the side and emptying the clumps is better than using a scoop or collecting bags of litter. I would suggest using the kitty litter bags to dispose of the clumped kitty litter, though. I have seen people spend upwards to around $100 for these mechanical cleaners that eventually break down. There are no moving parts here – just a simple roll over and back and pull out the tray. Wish I had found this one sooner!
This is one of the best purchases I’ve made in quite some time. It’s very easy to put together, despite directions not being exceptionally detailed. (ie how much litter you should or shouldn’t have in the pan) But it’s easy to figure out. The tabs on the side could be a bit sturdier, but I think if I’m careful they’ll be ok. My cats were very interested in it, went right inside to check things out & started using it soon after. I’ve even seen them waiting in line to go and they have other regular boxes at their disposal! Easy clean. Tip it over, shake a little & it separates everything. No need to scoop. Just make sure the litter goes back into the bottom on the side where they go as it seems to naturally want to stay to the other because of the sifter. Remove the drawer & dump the waste. You may need to do this twice if your cats gone a lot. No messes and it seems to keep the smell contained too. Usually clean the entire thing outside weekly using dish soap & a sponge, then spray it off with the hose.
This is a cat lovers dream come true. No mess, no fuss, just roll 3/4 of the way and back, pull out the tray plop cat mess in a bag and throw in trash. so simple a toddler can operate this.
The interior is small, but my cat adjusts to it very well. I had mine for two years, not one problem with the tabs or anything breaking.
I had a litter maid deluxe and the motor burned out in 8 months.
that was a pain in the royal butt. like the other reviewer said you have to clean the rake, and the stuck on the bottom mess.
I can say to you cat people that hadn’t tried this Omega Paw Self-Cleaning Litter Box. You don’t know what you are missing.
This thing is SO easy to use, so clean to use, I could never go back to just a “box.”
We use crystals and the grate works just fine. With the crystals instead of the litter sand, it doesnt leave any left over residue, about every 2 days or so we tip the box over and get rid of the clumps.
About every 2 weeks or so we open the top up and just dump all the litter left.
SO EASY!
I would buy it again!
This box is the BEST! No more scooping at all- like the others say, it takes just a few secs. to clean it, then I just slide out the tray and dump the clumps down the toilet. Use flushable litter if you choose to do this. My only problem with it is the clips that hold it together-I think I’ll take the others’ advice and replace them with my own screws. Also, I have one cat who tends to hang her butt out of it when she goes. She did it with every other box I’ve tried, but she does it a little more often with this one, as the space inside is a little cramped. My other three cats have no problem with it, though. Because it’s so quick to clean, I clean it much more often, too, making my cats and my nose very happy! I will still give it five stars, since I think it deserves ten!
I used the Litter Maid self cleaning box for a year until the motor burned out. Even before then, I had to clean out the rake once a day and pry up clumps that had stuck to the bottom of the litter box. When the motor died I took a chance on the Omega Paw, or as I call it, the Roly Poly Litter Box. In hindsight, I wish I had gotten the larger size, but the regular works just fine. I was concerned that, in spite of the outward appearance, the actual litter area is about the size of a shoebox. However, my two cats adjusted to it in less than a day. No more rakes to clean. A smart tap on the base after you roll it, and any clumps that are stuck drop right off. No wasted litter, no litter kicked out of the box, no scoops to mess with. I took the advice of a previous review and reinforced the clamps with binder clips. This is WELL WORTH the price!!!
I should add, when my mother bought one she couldn’t get it to work right. Every time she rolled it, half the litter was dumped in the receptacle. It turned out she was rolling it too fast, and too far. all it takes is a gentle roll just past the perpendicular. I’ve had this for many months now and still can’t say enough good things about it. Greatest invention in the world!
Love this litter box. I had a conventional one for a long time and thought of getting a real “self-cleaning” one but didn’t like the thought of my kitty still doing her business and being forced out by the cleaning method. So, I decided to give this one a try. Simple to set up, simple to use. No mess, no smell. This is a real bargain and shouldn’t be passed up!
This is one of the most intelligent purchases I have ever made. This is a brilliant idea. I am very sorry I didn’t invent it. It is ridiculous in its simplicity. You roll the box and all the icky junk gets caught in a drawer that you then pull out and empty.
Beauty really is in the simplicity.
One small, stinky boy. One RA15 Self-Cleaning Box. No more double lining his litter box. No more hauls of massive quantities of litter.
Simple, effective. Since I switched from classic pans to this device, my four cats have been much happier. Me, too. It’s so easy to use. I recommend corn base clumping litter. The other types don’t work as well. Just roll, tap, unroll, and empty. No mess, no fuss, no complicated machines.
I have 3 cats, and this thing works great!
Must use a high quality scoop-able cat litter, but it is well worth it. It does exactly what it is supposed to. I’ve read recommendations to buy the larger version if you have larger cats, but this size workes fine for my cats, and one of the three cats is quite long, and has no problem. I could see if a large and fat cat used it there could be a problem.
To use you just roll the thing over, roll it back, give it a shake to flatten out the unused litter and then pull out the tray and dump it.
It is quite odor free, unless one of the cats forgets to bury!
3 recommendations for use:
1.place a berber type of rug under/in front of the unit to catch litter- as cats will leave a trail as they exit, and the rug can easily be vaccuumed or shook over the trash or outside.
2.Don’t over fill with that premium litter as it will end up in the discard tray when you tilt it.
3. I make it my a.m. routine to roll it over, empty the tray each day, and the cats have been using it, and the tray is then easily emptied, because if you let it go too long, the waste will not all fit into the discard tray. (that’s with three cats)
I wanted to get a covered box because my cat always kicked her litter all over the floor. This box not only eliminates most of the litter coming out, but it is so easy to clean. A quick roll and roll back, and then I just dump the waste from the drawer into the trash bag.
I tried some of the bio-degradable litter with this pan and found it did not work well, the clumps kept getting stuck to the bottom of the pan, and I had to manually remove them. The regular clumping litter works very well, I find a couple of nice taps on the bottom of the pan while I have it rolled over makes any clumps that are stuck fall right off.
Note that there is not alot of room for the cat in here, so make sure it is big enough for your cat.
If I could give this product twenty stars I would. This cat box has changed my life, literally. I used to have to wait for someone else to empty the cat box because of my asthma. Now every morning I just roll it and dump the litter. It couldn’t be simpler. The whole process only takes a couple of minutes (literally). No smell and no lengthy cleaning process and no waiting..
For those having trouble, I have some hints:
- Don’t overfill it. Litter seems to last forever and overfilling it makes the litter spill.
- Get flushable litter. They DO make flushable litter for septic tanks. Just read the packages. Swheat Scoop is one brand that can be used in septic tanks.
- Make a habit of cleaning it once a day. Once you get the hang of it, cleaning the cat box is no longer the hated chore.
- Like anything you get new it make take a few days to get used to it.
- Sometimes I pat the bottom (when it’s upside down) a couple of times to loosen anything stuck to the bottom.
- Get one of those little rug samples to put in front of your cat box. Catches the debris and very easy to clean. You can either shake it out or vacuum.
First, I would like to comment on a review that gave it 1 star. It was very clear that they did not understand how it works. The waste is not supposed to go through the filter at all, it is actually quite the opposite.
We got our kitten about 3 weeks ago and I have already gone through 3 litterboxes and returned 2 of them. First I bought the automatic littersweep at Petsmart for about $80.00. It did not pick up all of the waste, which was often stuck to the bottom, so I had to manually remove it. In addition, when it reset itself the weight of the litter wasn’t even, this caused the sensor to shut the box off until I redistributed the litter. Both of these issues defeat the purpose of an automated litterbox. You would also need to purchase the liners they make for it, I can’t remember if there was a filter.
Second I bought a box with a grate built into it made by Van Ness for about $20.00 at Walmart. I put a lot of litter in, but the waste still got stuck to the grate. It was a hassle to clean because you have to scrape the waste off the grate (sometimes the pan) and pour the litter from one pan to another which ends up smelling up both pans. Also, you would probably need to purchase liners and charcoal filters for it.
Lastly, I bought the Omega Paw on [...]for about $25.00 (you may be able to get it cheaper on EBAY). This thing is great! To clean it you just roll it on it’s side, the litter is filtered through a grate which holds the litter and all of the waste falls into a small drawer that you just pull out and dispose of. I haven’t had it long enough to comment on it cracking and such.
The bottom line is, if you hate cleaning litterboxes and spending a lot of time and money on them, this box is for you.
Once you quickly figure out the concept, you’ll wonder, why didn’t I think of that? With a little vibrating finesse, you can clean the cat box in less than half the time of fishing for clumps. Tilt it back including all the litter, pull the tray, empty, and you’re done. I almost enjoy cleaning the litter box now, daily. Even the sensitive one had no problem switching to the new model.
No regrets, get this great new idea in cat scattery.
Love it – it’s easy to keep clean without actually getting your hands dirty. I clean this one several times a day, and wash the box once a month or so. I have a small covered trash can next to the box, and that gets emptied with the trash. No odors. Cat’s happy, I’m happy.
I’ve had this litter box for 4 months now and it’s awesome. I haven’t had any problems with the lid securing tabs as one of the other reviewers had, so I have no complaints at all. The available space inside looks a little small for my cat, but he doesn’t seem to mind. This is definitely the best kitty litter box I’ve ever owned. Ingenious design. Worth the money.
Been using it for a couple of days since we’ve adopted our cat. So far so good – the cat seems to like it just fine, the soiled litter (World’s Best Clumping Cat Litter) is super-easy to clean up. The trick, it seems, is to rotate the box slowly, letting all the loose litter go under the grid and for the clumps to fall into the right place.
This ingenious invention makes cleaning the cat box fun again! (Ha ha)
Seriously, we had a Littermaid for a year, but it always jammed and actually made cleaning the catbox harder, rather than easier. Everytime I would hear the motor struggling and jamming, it made me very tense, and I would swear at the Littermaid under my breath. We had a love/hate relationship with the Littermaid. Mostly hate.
We briefly debated getting the $300 Litter Robot, but instead thought we would try out this Omega Paw box…similar concept as the Litter Robot, except you manually turn it, and it is 1/10th the cost, and less things can go wrong.
We have two cats and they seem fine with the small version, as long as you clean it once a day. Cleaning takes under a minute…turn the box over, turn it back, empty the scoop. Pour in a little replacement litter. I rarely need to take it apart to clean it. Maybe once every 4 months or so.
I highly recommend this product.
We tried all the whiz-bang, automated machines. In fact, we went through several generations of them, hoping each time that the new iteration would solve the problems of the previous – all to no avail. A serious technophile, I seriously doubted that this simple litter box could work. After all, there’s no motor, no timer, no whirring and no buzzing. But the reviews were so strong, I decided to give it a try.
Simplicity triumphs. We are so incredibly satisfied with this little guy, I’m kicking myself for no having tried it sooner. Yes, there are a couple of minor deficiencies. Litter sometimes seeps out between the upper and lower halves – easily remedied with a little duct tape around the edges. And the latches aren’t as robust as they could be. In my situation, the tape has kept everything together very nicely. But if the latches ever fail, I’ll just sink a few small bolts, secured with wingnuts, through the flange here and there. Total cost – a couple of bucks.
It’s so quick and easy to clean the thing – once a day is enough for our two cats, but twice is better. Just roll it over, pop the bottom of it a couple of times with the heel of your hand, roll it back. That’s it. The poop scoop only has to be emptied every 2 or 3 days. Even when we’re negligent, there’s never ANY smell. Get the larger one for two cats. It’s worth the extra couple of bucks.
i have had the large box for over a year, i have had no problems with the clips. i have more litter boxes than cats and my cats use this box over all the other litter boxes i have, and i have picky cats. it is a breeze to clean. i’m going to order a regular unit also because i only have 1 large cat and depending on how they like the smaller size i’m going to convert to all self-cleaning boxes, large or regular. liked the tip on the litter, i’ll go looking for that, since i have 5 cats.
I have a 16 pound, fat cat that was having trouble moving around in the Litter Robot litter box that we have (which is great also unless you have a fat cat). We needed a litter box that could manage such a large cat. She also has very smelly poops so an automated box is what we thought would work best. Well, we tried the other automated litter boxes and were very disappointed. I decided to try this manual litter box, the large size. It works great, it is like a manual version of the Litter Robot but is larger in size. We do not have an odor problem, the cat can move around well and it is easy to use. This box is highly recommended.
I recently obtained 3 cats much to my surprise! I dreaded cleaning their Kitty Litter box every day until I got this one! I admit I was a little skeptical at first, thinking this would never work, but I am so happy that it does because now cleaning the cat litter box is now longer a dreaded chore but one that is enjoyed. Rolling the box over back and forth and then emptying the drawer is easy – heck it is almost fun!
What an ingenius product! I’ve only been using it for a week, but am so pleased with it. I have two cats who “require” privacy when doing their business, but it can be such a pain to use a regular hooded litter box. With this box they get their privacy, the odor is controlled, and I hardly have to do any work. I currently use Nature’s Miracle Odor Control Clumping litter, and find it works very well (and it’s flushable!). I would suggest putting some type of mat outside the box so that kitties don’t track litter around, but this would be true of most boxes. So far an excellent investment!
My 11 yr old son takes care of his cat .. and I had to always be on him to clean the liter box .. now he does it with rarely a hint!
Its SO EASY! A lil flip and pull out the drawer and empty .. then flip back a bit and all done .. until you have to change the liter, which is easily only about once a month!
Great deal! I recommend it highly!
In short, this product is simple, easy to set up, easy to use, very little mess, and not all that expensive. One con is that you have to empty it every day at most two. I used to have 2 large open litter boxes that I would empty every 4 days or so. This is much nicer and cleaner. (I do not work for the maker or its affiliates)
I typically don’t write reviews on products but I just had to here as I am very happy with this product and wish to share it with others. I bought the Omega Paw in the large size at a Petsmart after doing some pretty extensive research. I presently have 5 cats ranging in size from very large to dainty. I’ve tried pretty much every type of cat litter pan on the market–the basic square pan, sifter types, covered and uncovered all the way up to the high tech automatic electric models. I’m kind of a sucker for gagets but I’m always looking for the best deal for the performance. This product gets the big paws up for both.
I hate to even go into the cost involved in buying electric models which last about as long as it takes you to pay for them (maybe less time than that in some cases) and how they are a big mess to deal with (literally). The motors which drive them are pretty much the same ones you can get in a child’s tinker toy kit–yes I’ve taken them apart and replaced, cleaned, glued, re-drilled and oiled parts in order to get a little more life out of more than one dying electro-potty and no company stands behind their products once you leave the store with it. Just try buying a basic part from littermaid–forget it and yeah right, I’m going to pack up the cat potty and send it back to the manufacturer for repairs.
After trying the omega paw and seeing that it actually performed as stated with virtually no moving parts, very easy to clean–no scooping, saves you a ton of money as well as keeps my cats healthy and happy–I was sold. The drawbacks of the product aren’t really worth complaining about in my opinion. If you are careful putting it together and don’t try to take it out for some kind of crash test, it’s very durable. As for the space it takes up?–just try an electric model–once you’ve spread one of those puppies out, stored all of the special containers and filters, plugged it in and propped up and clamped a couple of easily worn out broken pieces; while the super glue is drying you’ll be better able to appreciate the simplicity and the compactness of the Omega paw design. Thanks.
As a mom to 7 cats we have 3 litter boxes…This by far is the best ever!! I had to replace 1 and got this kind and as soon as i can I will get more of these…They are a little small though so I would recommend the larger one.
I was skeptical about this product, but having read all of the reviews, I decided to give it a go. I was SO excited when I found that everything that everyone was saying about it was true! This is truely a great product, and I would recommend it to anyone with a cat! It works just like the advertisements say it will. I have told many people about this and they too have found it to be so easy to use.
This product is awesome. Even if you put a little too much litter in (which I did at first), it will still work; albeit a little bit of still good litter ending up in the trash drawer. I think it’s easiest to fill the litter with the top off and the box tilted on its side, so you can see how much will fit in the filtered compartment.
Both of my cats like this litter box, and if there’s only urine in the litter a quick turnover allows my cats a clean box for the night, while I don’t have to worry about dumping the drawer until the next morning when they’ve left me something a little more smelly.
I gave this cat box as a gift to my mother-in-law, who reports that not only does her cat love it, but she finds it very easy to use and to clean – much easier than her old box and rake. She did say that she had a problem at first with litter coming out, but after I told her about some of the other comments on this box about using less litter than usual, she says it works beautifully and saves her a lot of bending over, which at age 76 is pretty hard for her.
Nothing can be easier for the price. It works as advertised. The only thing that would be easier would be an automatic litter box, but from the reviews I have read, most have a short life expectancy and they cost many times more.
This is a great product that works as advertised with no moving parts. I bought two of the regular size for my three small-to-medium sized cats, replacing two traditional litter boxes. My cats had no problem in using them.
My only criticism is that the instructions are poor. There is no indication of how much litter to use, it actually takes very little. If you overfill it, the disposal tray fills with litter rather than clumps. I suspect that that is the reason for some of the negative reviews.
One side of the litter box is taken up by the grate that traps the litter and the tray for the clumps so the area for the cat seems rather small. My cats don’t seem to notice, they use it with their heads sticking out the hole.
The surface area of the exposed litter is rather small and it is shallow so you might have to remove the clumps more often than with other trays. Since that takes maybe 30 seconds, it’s not much of a chore.
After years of scooping and waisting litter, I had almost resigned myself to the idea of plunking down over $100 cash for one of those automated cat boxes. After extensive research on the electirc boxes, I had found only mixed reviews and finally stumbeled on a write-up about the Omega Paw Self-Cleaning Litter Box. Last week I spent $30 on one at PetCo and am thrilled with it so far. It’s a briliant design, minimises my contact with dirly litter and waste and is sooo easy to use. Even if the little tabs on the side break, (like some of the reviews have said they will), I’ll have no problems investing another $30 in a year or so. I have two full grown cats who have had no problem taking to the box and all three of us recommend this product to pawn down!
Having never owned an indoor cat before, I found the only thing I disliked about cat ownership was the litterbox–scooping a foul litterbox, sweeping loose litter off the floor, litter dust all over everything, etc. I didn’t have a hundred smackers or more to blow on a self-cleaning litterbox, so when I heard about the Omega-Paw and did some research, I felt I was onto something great. Once I received the litterbox, I found out my feeling was right on.
I had read some confusing reviews that suggested rubbing oil on the inside, taping and bolting pieces together, etc., but none of that is really necessary. Really, why make something so wonderfully simple into something complicated? The clips keep it closed well and, unless you have a cat with bowel problems or don’t like to clean your box daily, it stays quite clean on the inner sides. I have a large Maine Coon kitten who loves to excavate his litter, and he kicked litter from his old box to Kingdom Come. The Omega Paw contains all the litter and dust quite well, and the regular size is plenty big enough to accomodate him. It’s truly easy to use, I just roll it over and back again, give it a little tip, and viola! No more scooping!! YAY!! It even saves on litter, somehow.
I really can’t say enough nice things about this litterbox. It truly deserves 5 stars. Now, all I need is the mat to keep him from tracking….
I just own one cat but let me tell ya, this thing is the bomb! It’s clean, it leaves no odor, it literally cleans itself, making it all the more great of an item to purchase. How can you go wrong when your not sweeping up spilled litter and smelling the litter-mix smell all the time, even if it’s set way in the back room? For the price it pays for itself.
I was looking to buy an electric box when I saw so many poor ratings and complaints on them. I saw such good reviews on this product so I bought it. I can’t figure out how it works exactly, but it does just as it says. You roll it over, it sorts the used litter from the still fresh litter. You pull out the little drawer and throw the mess away. It’s so easy and quick. BUY IT!
I have 3 cats, and can’t afford the $100 motorized self-cleaning litter pans. This pan design is pure genius!
You never make a mess, you never touch litter or waste, even by accident.
When you have time, simply roll the pan over, slowly, then back. The slowly part is important, do it too fast, and you waste some perfectly good clumping litter. Pull out the tray, dump it in the garbage, replace, and you’re done! I work 12 hours a day, and my cats seem to have overactive digestive tracts. With other pans, if I forgot to change the litter for more than a day, the pan was so disgusting, I’d have to take it outside and hose it off after dumping the contents in the garbage. What a waste! But with this pan, I simply repeat the cleaning process twice, replace a little litter, and it’s good to go.
I cannot say enough about this product, it is wonderful! If you can afford the motorized self-cleaning boxes, you may find them to be a little more convenient, but I doubt I’ll ever have a different cat litter pan!
I bought one of these almost 5 years ago. I just now need to replace it. It is the best litter box. No mess, no icky scoop, no litter kicked all around. It’s so easy my kids don’t even mind cleaning it. I highly recommend it.
I really like my Omega litter box. It’s a great and affordable product for a multi cat family.
No one likes to clean the litter box. It’s a dirty job. However, the Omega Paw Self-Cleaning box makes the whole ordeal much more tolerable. I just flip it over every morning, empty the pull-out tray into a plastic grocery bag, and toss it into the trash outside as I’m leaving for work. No more scooping, and no more having to vaccuum up litter on the floor around the box all the time. In fact, I got a litter catching mat to place in front of it, and now I only clean the floor when I do my regular vaccuuming once per week.
Some reviewers have stated that their cat has to back in to the box to use it, but mine just walks in and turns around. She is an average sized cat, weighing about 10 pounds. My cat likes seems to like the privacy, too. I have recommended this litter box to all my friends who have cats.
have had 2 of these boxes for a couple weeks now, and no problems at all. Even one of my large males gets in. Also use the world’s best litter as suggested by another reviewer, and it works well, love the flushability. One of the best purchases I’ve ever made!
I am so glad we took a chance and ordered this cat litter box. It is much easier and, to me, more sanitary than the traditional litter box. My favorite part is not having to touch the scoop (most of the time, there is an occasional clump that needs to be helped out) and being able to pull out the drawer and dump the contents in less than a minute! The only gripe I have is that when you roll the box over there does tend to be some litter that leaks out even when all the latches are firmly in place. Overall, a very good product.
This is the best buy that I have ever gotten for my cat. The litter box is so easy to clean, that I actually don’t mind doing it everyday. I recommend it to anyone that has cats. I followed the directions from everyone who reviewed it before, and it’s doing great. My cat actually used it as soon as I put it together. Everyone I know is amazed by it when they see it. So again, highly recommended!
I bought this for my cat when he was 1 years old. He’s 3 now. I choose this because I heard that the automated cleaning one was very loud and that people had expericences when it began to scare there cat. I like this one but you can’t really clean the little box right away. The cat poo has to harden first. I don’t think everyone had to wait but I only feed my cat soft food. Even with the really good clumping litter it may be a little difficult at first to clean the litter box as soon as the cat poos. :0)
I was very skeptical about buying this product, and to be honest, the only reason that I did was because of its overall great reviews. I figured if this many people liked it, it was worth a shot. I absolutely think it is the best thing. The people that had negative things to say about it surely were not doing something right! You do have to use a quality clumping litter, and it definitely has to be used as instructed. However, if you have these two components, I have no clue how you wouldn’t love it. We have saved a lot on litter since we purchased this item. I would definitely recommend buying the LARGE size one though!
I bought this litter box about 4 years ago (it was a different brand from Wal-Mart and it did exactly the same thing as this one does) and I have been searching for another one for quite some time because mine was thrown away by my “upset ex-fiance”. I’ve searched the internet and scoured MANY Wal-Marts over and over with no such luck!
NO, I do NOT work for this company, as I have NEVER even heard of them…so this is completely MY personal opinion. As other customers have stated, I was very skeptical about it at first…but I decided I’d take my chances. I am SOOO glad I did! This is the EASIEST, CLEANEST (by that, I mean you don’t have to touch the “unmentionables”), QUICKEST poop-scooping product that I have EVER used! I’m not sure who loved it more- myself or my kitty! I’ve tried the covered boxes and other items promising that they made scooping easier or quicker when infact, most of them made it much harder! An open litter box is not the greatest idea if you have other pets (i.e.-DOGS) who like to “dig for treasures” and I found the regular covered one was a bigger nuisance for the kitty because it had a door covering the opening. She would sometimes get stuck in the box because the door would catch or go the opposite way when she got in.
In regards to previous statements about the crystals and not finding the correct litter, I have some advice and hope it may help in the future
I used Fresh Step Scoopable and/or Multiple Cat Strength litter and it worked VERY well. Yes, there were a few times where the urine areas would stick (especially in the corners), but if you just flip it completely on it’s top and hit it a few times…it should come right off. The ONLY times it did that was if the box was NOT cleaned on a DAILY basis! I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND CLAY LITTER as it has a tendency to stick to the box and become VERY messy and hard to remove because it never completely dries up. As for the Crystals, I’ve tried that in the regular boxes and it was more of a hassle than anything! It worked great for the poop because it dried it up almost immediately and that helped with the odor but it was HORRIBLE when it came to the urine…which is what it’s SUPPOSEDLY known for! One bag is supposed to last you 30 days but that was never the case for me! We were lucky to have it last 2 weeks! The urine was never completely absorbed by the crystals, no matter how much you “raked” it.
Simply put…if you’re like me (or the majority of pet owners out there) and you HATE scooping poop…GET ONE OF THESE BOXES or one just like it if you can find it! I’ve recommended it to everyone I know that has cats and they all love it as much as I do! Now…if we could only get the indoor dogs to do the same…
I know this was a long review and I apologize, but this item is DEFINITELY worth it! Good luck and happy scooping
This is an awesome cat box and a great alternative to the fully automatic liter boxes. It performs as described and I have NOT noticed any odor since switching over to this one. I am very pleased with the design and function and even happier with the price. The only complaint I have is cosmetic. When the unit arrived, the top had a quarter sized area that had faded out. No problem for me and it is not worth a formal complaint. Overall, I am very pleased at how a simple idea can allow you to reclaim your home from cat odor! Should you try it? Yes!
Great product. I have had cats for well over 30 years and now I don’t mind cleaning the box, usually 2 times a day with this box. Anyone who can’t figure this out needs to get a child’s help.
Just as title says, I feel this is the best product I have ever purchased as far as it working as advertised, being inexpensive to comparable products and otherwise simplifying my life. I would strongly recommend this product.
So I bought this product for my two cats because I just couldn’t stand scooping anymore. The automated ones are… for people with more money than me. I cleaned it for the first time today and it literally took me less than 10 seconds. My cats tend to pee on the sides, which I was concerned about (scraping litter is not fun), but I think the design somehow overcomes this and I had clumps in the drawer and clean litter in the pan afterwards. Get it!!! I use Scoop Away and it works great.
This litter box is excellent. It does exactly what is says. I would recommentd however that you order the larger box. The one for one cat is still too small I think. But it is a wonderful product and not expensive.
I ordered two of these in regular size (have 3 cats). My 14 yr old does not like it, but will use it in an emergency. He does not fit in it really well. The reviews stated this size worked well for large cats, but mine sometimes have their butts out the door and hit the floor.
Roll, tilt, and you’re done. What a great, simple concept! No more having to bend to scoop out individual clumps of poop or pee and spend 5 minutes or more in doing so. It all comes out easily into a tray which you can then dispose of into the toilet or the garbage (depending on which litter type you have, some are not septic tank safe). I use it with Precious Cat litter and the clumping works great. All you have to do is add litter as is necessary when it runs low. No need to dump all the litter, add liners and add new sand, this litter box contains odors very well thanks to its lid. Make sure all the snaps are in place unless you want to risk having sand go on your floor..
I inherited a smaller cat and all her periphernalia including a rather large litter box with a top on it. Because my cat is very messy in her use of the litter box, it was always necessary to keep the top on just to be able to keep the litter in the box. It was always a depressing thought knowing that the litter box had to be cleaned because the lid always had to be removed in order to get at its contents and I didn’t have much room to manuever in once the lid was removed, not to mention all the dust that was raised by sifting through all the litter. But now I have the Omega Paw Self-Cleaning Litter Box and clean-up is clean, quick, and easy. Simply roll the unit to the right (you can hear the solids once they’re past the grid), then roll it back to the left; pull out the little drawer and dump the contents into a bag–once! It’s a real time-saver and makes having a cat much more enjoyable.
After trying two of the expensive Purrforma model PURRFORMA PLUS XLG HOODED WH, I tried this unit Omega Paw Self-Cleaning Litter Box, Regular, Green and Beige. It worked so well, I bought a second (we have four cats). It is easy to service, the cats love, it uses far less litter.
After spending big bucks on several of the so-called “automatic cleaning” litter boxes, I came upon this product and decided to give it a try. It can’t be any easier or more efficient!! Love it!! and so do my cats. No expensive pans to buy, and no part to break down and render the product useless.
One of the best products I have seen, especially for the price. Me and my wife travel and this makes it a lot easier on our friends that come over to take care of the cats not to mention it takes less of our time to clean the boxes.
We liked it so much we bought two!
This is quite possibly the greatest thing ever created. After my $200+ electronic self cleaning litter box was a disgusting (literally, disgusting) failure, I saw that this one had good reviews and was much much cheaper, and immediately ordered it. After ordering it, I started reading reviews and saw some where people somehow just didn’t like it… man, i feel bad for them. They must be doing something very wrong, I don’t see how anyone could not love this thing. I have 3 cats and they poop a LOT, and all i have to do is turn this thing over once a day and it cleans everything within minutes. Every 2-3 weeks i take it all apart and clean its inside walls, and I never have any smell to deal with. I noticed people were complaining about the clasps breaking, so i rarely touch them, and when I do, I am very gentle.. no problems there.. I also saw some people were complaining about litter falling through the cracks. Well, they must have it attached wrong or something. Only sometimes do I have any litter fall through the side, and when i do i just shake out the mat that I keep under the box. Cleaning the litter box is actually entertaining now! I laugh every time i use this thing because of what a pain cleaning the litter used to be, and how easy it is now. And to top it off, I actually save a lot of money on litter. I strongly suggest using Precious Cat Ultra Premium Clumping Cat Litter, as it has worked great for me. The one negative thing is that my girlfriend is too weak and frail to turn the litterbox to clean it, so if you don’t have someone living with you who can do it, then you shouldn’t get it. (It is extremely easy for me to do, and you have to be very weak and helpless in order to not be able to do it.) So PLEASE take my advice and GET THIS LITTERBOX. I swear it has changed my life!
UPDATE… I have now had this litter box for several months, and I have to say, I still love it more than I love my cats… Ok, maybe not THAT much, but I really love it. It is so amazing, every time I have someone over, I show them how great it is!! Yes, they think I am weird, but they agree that this litter box is fantastic.
I’ve used about 6 different litter boxes over the past 5 years. I’ve tried almost every type: domed, automatic and even a toilet training system. This one is truly great. No mess, quick and simple to use (so you won’t skip a day of cleaning because of the complexity) and my cat seems to like it. It is an economical and practical solution that I recommend to everyone who loves their cat!!
This is the next best thing to getting one of those $100+ models that is self-cleaning. All you have to do is turn this thing over on its side, then turn it back, pull out the tray with the dirty litter, and you’re done! It’s fantastic. This is great for those of us who don’t like to dig around in a litter box searching for clumps. It takes 10 seconds to clean, literally. For $30, this is a great compromise between the $5 regular litter box and the very pricey mechanical models. Downside is that this box can seem small for a large cat. My cat still sticks her head out while she does her business but it works well for her. Overall, big thumbs up!
I absolutely love this litter box! I’ve owned traditional box type litter pans, I tried the automatic one that scoops after the cat leaves and deposits clumps in a bin(it was just okay), and now this. The Omega Paw self-cleaning litter box has made me re-think my decision to make this cat my last. I love my cat – I adopted him when friends couldn’t move with him. He’s been a great companion, but I hate cleaning litter boxes. The Omega Paw is so easy and stress free that I don’t mind anymore! All you have to do is roll it on it’s side, thump the bottom once or twice, then roll it back over and shake a little so the clean litter redistributes evenly across the bottom of the pan. The only drawback is its size – it’s a little larger than the space a “normal” litter box might take… but totally worth it! Note, I have a 10 lb. cat and I think if he were any larger he might not fit in the “regular” size. If I get another, I’ll probably buy a “large” so he has a little more room. I haven’t had any problems with the clips yet, but I’m taking care to be extra-gentle with them based on other reviews here.
I HATED that litter box! It was only my love for my kitties that kept me going back to clean it. It was a daunting and dusty daily chore. Now, in less time, with less bending over and straining my back, lots less inhalation of dust, not to mention that hideous mell, the hatred of litter box cleaning is gone. This litter box is great! It’s easy to use and works very well. The only caveat would be to get the larger size for the multiple kitty household. While the small one works for Amazing Gracie and Ms. Baxter, it is a tad inadequate. If you hate cleaning that litter box, I highly recommend this product. I only wish I had discovered it years ago.
I can’t believe how easy this box is to use. Just roll it over and back then poof – the clumps are all in the little pull out drawer. This design is truly amazing. It takes no more than 10 seconds to clean. Your litter goes a lot farther and the odor is MUCH less noticeable.
This product is fantastic.
Hands down this is the best litter box ever. No moving parts to break, no plastic shopping bags, scoops and considerably more affordable than the automatic alternatives. I look forward to cleaning the cat box now. Cleaning the cat box has never been easier.
We have a diabetic tabby who urinates a LOT and have used Littermaids and also the Scoop Away crystals automatic litter boxes, and this is by far better than both of them. I gave my mother a Littermaid and now she wants one of these ! The only negative is that the seam on the rounded end is not very well-sealed and has a tendency to leak litter when you roll it. If you have a cat that pees a lot or multiple cats this is your solution.
This product is great!!! You can use it so fast and then WOW your done!!!!!! One note though Don’t move to fast when rolling the litter box over or a bunch of clean litter will get trapped in with the dirty litter. Overall a great product and saves lots of time if you’ve got more than one kitty!!!
I have checked out every single automatic litter box out there and each one has ’something’ wrong with it. Anything electric can stop working and when you pay HUNDREDS, I figure I’ll try something that costs a little less. To start out though, I was actually not interested in a manual box. I didn’t mind scooping so much but it’s what to do with the stuff that started causing issues for us. The litter we got was flushable but sometimes clogged. Since I hadn’t had a box like this one before, I didn’t understand what I was missing.
While searching and reading reviews on automatic litterboxes I came to this one. I was ticked at first that it was manual and showed up in my search for “automatic” but darn those reviews I read got me interested. I went to the store to check one out. Almost immediately a Petco employee said, “I don’t have a cat but oh my gosh do I get comments about that litter box.”
Ok. So at that point I was convinced this might be worth a try. I purchased the litter a reviewer on this box recommended as well “Worlds Best Cat Litter”. Thanks to the other reviewer!
I can try and try to tell you that this box is so awesome but you probably wont really know how great it works until you get one. No electric to go bad, no hundreds and hundreds of dollars to pay and it’s sooo easy that the litter box will stay clean all the time. You roll it to one side, roll it back, pull the scoop bin out and dispose. Takes SECONDS, does a better job than scooping, and with the flushable kitty litter that is actually flushable, I don’t even feel the upkeep to the cats. That’s all you need now is that Bissel Spot Bot and your golden!
Most pet shops did not carry this item and the one that did said that they sell out fast. Just order from here and hopefully get the free shipping. Also, consider the larger verson of this product (this is the regular size), especially if you have a large cat. Although the litterbox size is about average for a covered littter box, the inside area for the cat is smaller. Since they carry a larger version, that should be no problem.
If one can love a litter box then I love it. It is easy to use and less messy than other boxes. It just makes sense.
I love this box it is so easy to maintain and you don’t have to touch the litter.
We love this cat box. It is so easy to get rid of the waste – even our kids do it. This was a replacement for one we bought 10 years ago and we only replaced it because it was getting a little hard to clean out a few scratch marks (we need to trim her nails more!).
I wanted a way of taking care of the litter box smell and order having 4 cats i wanted something was non electric and would take of this problem for me and your litter box does just what is said it would do I have reccomended this to many of my friends who also have cats and they were also happy with how well the cat litter box was so easy to use and very good price i am very pleased with my purchase
We had an electric self-cleaning box before this one, but it shorted out after a couple weeks, and didn’t work well to begin with. Then we ordered this box, and though it takes some getting used to, it’s the best box we could hope for, at a reasonable price. Really easy to clean. Despite its high wall, the cats DO manage to kick some litter outside the box, but certainly a smaller amount than most litter boxes.
I’ve found that crystal litter works very well to supplement this box for a lazy cat owner such as myself. It sifts through the box’s grating as well as normal clumping litter, if not better, and you don’t have to change it nearly as often.
This is the best litter box I have ever owned. It used to take 10-15 minutes to clean our cat box, then I had to clean the scoop, in addition to having to smell it that whole time. Now I just roll the box and dump the waste. It only takes about 1 minute now.
This is a fantastic product and I have already reccomended it to everyone I know that has a cat.
Upon receiving the litter box(the packing box is huge!), my wife declared that I was ripped off!. After setting it up and demonstrating it after the cats used it, she changed her tune! “That is the best cat box ever!”, she exclaimed. We estimate this simple box will save us hours a year in scooping litter.
The litterbox in our house is right outside of our home office– and since I work at home, I needed something that controlled odor without necessitating constant litter changing or scooping. This product is definitely what I was searching for. It’s very easy to use, although you do need to turn it all the way over to make sure every clump gets in the pull-out tray. You never have to wash out the box (although you might choose to here and there), and liners aren’t necessary, either, which helps cut down some on the cost of having more than one cat.
I’ve noticed a significant difference in both odor (a lot less pronounced) and litter tracking outside of the box (greatly reduced) since we switched to the Omega. Plus, my two cats have no problem getting in and out of the box. Overall, this is a great product and the price is excellent, too.
BEST CAT BOX EVER……EVERYTHING EVERYONE ELSE SAYS IS TRUE ABOUT THIS CAT BOX. I HAVE ALREADY RECOMMENEDED IT TO FAMILY AND FRIENDS. CATS LOVE IT AND NO SMELL AND LESS WASTE OF LITTER. WORTH EVERY PENNY IF IT!
I adopted my first cat about a month ago. I am disabled, and cannot take care of the litter box. My attendant has raved about how wonderful it is, that I ordered one for her kitten. I will tell my friends about this great product. It lives up to its expectation.
Many cat owners buy the Omega Paw self-cleaning litter box because it’s more hygienic than scooping a box yourself, but they don’t use the right kind of litter with the box to truly maximize its potential.
World’s Best Cat Litter (Extra Strength Multicat Formula) is what I use. It’s made from corn, so it’s non-toxic. In addition, it’s also safe to flush. What this means for Omega Paw owners is that they can put this premium clumping cat litter into their box, and then when it’s time to roll the box and pull out the waste tray, the contents of the waste tray can go directly into a toilet. No need for plastic bags or potentially smelly waste receptacles. It’s the most hygienic way to handle a litter box that I have ever discovered. I highly recommend this combination.
The Omega Paw box itself gets 4 stars because the plastic tabs are a bit weak. If you only open the tabs once a month or so to do deep cleaning of the box and replace the litter, they shouldn’t break too soon. If you’re opening the box every day or so to add litter, you may have problems. The way I add litter to my Omega Paw is to fill the removeable tray with as much litter as I just scooped out, then use the tray to dump the litter in the front opening. This saves me from having to take the top off the box, which in turn keeps the weak clips from breaking.
Also, World’s Best Cat Litter weighs a lot less than typical clumping cat litter, which should save the box from undue strain when rolling.
First, buy this thing right away. As long as you have room to roll it about 3/4 over and then back to the starting point, there is no better way to clean cat litter. This thing is an absolute great product, hands down. I’d probably give up the cat before I’d give up this box.
But the top comes off using little clips that break easily. If that happens, go to home depot and buy some screws, washers and wing nuts to use in place of the clips that break off. The screws and such cost me about $5.
And fear not if your cat likes large boxes: the actual space for the cat in this box is absolutely tiny (1/2 of the space is reserved for the operation of the thing) and my cat prefers it to the largest size enclosed box you can buy. Before this box, he refused to use any box that wasn’t huge. Now, he loves this tiny thing. Go figure.
It comes in three pieces (with a fourth piece, a little drawer, as part of the top). And no instructions. So here they are:
Put the base on the ground, lay the small piece (it’s sort of a ramp looking thing – half solid, half slotted) on the top of the base, so that the solid part covers the top of the right half of the base, and the slatted part angles down towards the bottom of the base. Very important: The bottom of the slotted part fits into a little raised tab on the bottom of the base to hold it in place. You’ll see a notch for the upper flat part of the ramp and that’s where it goes: you just rest it on the top of the base. Pour cat litter on the left side of the base, so that it fills to about 4-5″ of the left side of the base. You can use any clumping litter, but it has to clump for the thing to work,
Pull the clips on the top, back in the opposite direction of the arrows, and put the top on so that it covers the base (and the small ramp-looking thing). Slide the 3 clips in the direction of the arrows until they lock (or break! ha ha).
You only need to unclip the thing to add litter or to deep clean it with the hose about once per month. I bought a big scoop, like the kind you scoop flour with in the bulk section of your grocery, and I use it to refill the litter: I just toss it in the hole the cat would go in, and so now I only need to unclip it once per month.
After the cat poops in the thing, lift the left side up, as if you are rolling it over, end over end, but you don’t really want to roll it completely over onto it’s top: stop about 3/4 of the way there – about the 2 o’clock position. You’ll hear the fresh litter slide through the slats, but the solid pieces will roll over the ramp along the flat part and into the drawer. Then roll it back to a little PAST where you started, to distribute the litter from under the ramp on the right back to the left side. Then set it down where you started. Pull open the drawer and let the waste slide into a bag. The whole process takes about 10 seconds once you’ve done it before.
This thing is a miracle. Don’t buy anything else. It’s a 5 star product, but I gave it 4 stars because it’s too cheaply made. But don’t let that stop you from buying it. It’s by far the best solution out there. By far.
I too was considering an electronic self-cleaning litterbox, until I read all the negative reviews. Came upon this one, and the reviews were glowing, so I tried it.
First slight disappointment — the picture on the listing shows a green and tan box, which looks fairly nice. What arrived was a blue and silver thing that looks cheap and a bit gaudy. Other reviewers were right in that the Omega Paw is VERY cheaply made. The plastic is thin, even warped in places. The tabs haven’t broken for me yet, but I can see they probably will. I wish they’d used a better-gauge plastic — even slightly thicker would be an improvement.
I was concerned about the size — I have a larger cat, and purchased the regular-size litterbox — but she’s taken to it just fine. Keep in mind that with the interior grille divider, the usable area of the box is just over half its inside size.
I suppose it does work — mostly. But here’s what happens often for me: the “grille” that filters the clumps from the litter, has slats that angle down. This facilitates the litter going through as you roll it. However, these slats or louvres also snag the clumps. Smaller clumps, especially the marble-sized fecal ones, get caught in the slats. I find that I have to roll it back and forth several times, and often bang on the bottom to dislodge the stuck clumps. I’ve sometimes had to take off the lid and scoop manually, which is way more hassle than my previous litter box was.
Second caveat: unless you can place the box where it has a couple feet of space on either side, you’ll have to move it around to do the rolling. In a NYC apartment, space is a premium, so the box is tucked away in the kitchen. When it’s cleaning time, I have to lug it out into the open and find enough room to roll it around, then put it back.
So far, I’ve come in contact with more litter, dust, and unsanitary stuff using this box, than I did just scooping out my previous one. There’s probably a technique I haven’t mastered yet, and I really do want the box to work. When it does, it is terrific.
This box is a darn good idea, and we are glad we spent the money to get it.
Before, we’d have to scoop, scoop, scoop around all through the box, sifting through the litter to get every last piece of refuse. This unit only requires that you roll it on it’s top, return it to it’s upright position and shake it a little to the other side, no problems.
The only issues we have encountered are as follows:
1. We have been using Feline Pine scoopable litter. This litter started off very smell-free, but for some reason now it is not working as well. What’s more, the sawdust-like litter is not so good with our cat, as he likes to dig to the very bottom plastic surface of his box (old or new) to pee, then covers that up. For some reason, this makes this litter “glue” to the bottom…
In his old box, we’d have to scrape it out, in this one, I’ve had to bang it off of the bottom, which is not ideal. I would not personally recommend using Feline Pine scoopable. I don’t know, but I don’t believe the regular feline pine pellets will work with this box either, as that litter requires a special wide-gapped scooper.
I think we are going to go back to what was generally successful before (minus it’s trackign around the bathroom), Nature’s Miracle litter.
2. The scooper unit in here (that you pull out to dispose of the waste) is buckled in on each side…which means that sometimes small fragments of cat “stuff” fall aside it, as it relies on solid contact with the side wall (on the curved side) to pick up the refuse.
If Omega Paw decides they want to send me a new scooper with straghter sides, that would be great, but for now I will survive.
All that said, this box is simple genius and we love it. Turns a chore into a quick task. Thanks, Omega Paw!
I have been using the large Omega Paw Self-Cleaning litter box for years. It makes cleaning the litter box so simple and mess free that I wouldn’t trade it for any thing else. The best part is that it is so much cheaper than the electric self cleaning litter boxes. With the Omega Paw box you simply roll it slowly onto it’s top, smack the bottom to loosen any stuck on clumps and then roll it back onto its bottom. Then you pull out the tray containing the dirty litter and dispose of it. That’s all there is to it, simple, quick and inexpensive. But unless your cats are small, you need to go with the large size box as the screen and tray do take up a lot of room inside the box. That’s why I’m only giving 4 stars to this smaller box.
This litter box actually does clean quite easily and efficiently, all the while keeping the box(and your bathroom) fresh with less odor. And I have a cat that likes privacy, so the cover was ideal, and she appreciated it. My only issue is that my long, plump kitty did not have lots of room to squat, dig, or bury once inside the box. It looks big on the outside, but the special grating that allows for the clumps to be trapped in the cleaning tray makes almost half of the box inaccessible for your cat. So unless your cat is small or average length and/or weight, she will be cramped inside, and have to squeeze and crunch around the little space in order to use the bathroom. The clean up was vey easy & quick as stated, but the discomfort it caused my big kitty wasn’t worth it. I bought a regular litter box so that she could “go” comfortably again.
It works very well. Cleans easily. A couple of things would make it better; would be nice to have a bigger area for the cats to stand in and would be nice to have an opening at the top or side to put new litter in. Even though there’s room for improvement, I highly recommend it and it’s the best box I’ve found thus far.
This product works pretty well. I’ve had one for a couple of weeks now and it works as advertised. I’m using it for two, eight week old kittens and with WBCL (and now chicken scratch) as cat litter. I haven’t tried it with heavier clay litter, so can’t rate that. I will say that it does have some trouble sifting out the very small clumps of cat poo, but with a larger cat, this wouldn’t really be a concern. Rolling action and assembly take a little while to get a hang of. You need to make sure that the grid piece is firmly pushed down into the slots and that you get a good seal between the top and bottom pieces of the box.
Also, when you use it, I’d suggust giving it a good whack or two before you roll and when you roll farthest to the right (to dislodge any stuck-on pieces). Also giving it a good shake when you roll it back to the left will help disperse the litter back into the clean litter area.
Even though my 14lb cat somehow managed to use the box once (with his head and shoulders sticking out of the opening, I would definately only rec. this for small cats or kittens. If you have a ~10lb+ cat, go with the larger box. This should be called the “small” size rather than “regular.
We tried littermaid, etc – lots of different boxes over the years. The only problem with this box is that if I don’t check the latch in the front, it will sometimes (not always) spill some litter when it is rolled. They can and should easily fix this. Otherwise, it’s brilliant in its simplicity. Yes, it takes some getting used to but now I can’t imagine ever having a different litterbox.
I read all the reviews for this and the electronic self cleaning litter boxes, and am very glad I chose the Omega Paw.
I went to Pets Supplies Plus and Petsmart and was disappointed that neither store carries the box. I was hesitant to order it online without seeing exactly how it works.
When my husband saw the box, he said, it’s so simple it’s brilliant!
Works okay if your cat’s feces are big enough for that litter. I have two cats, two diffrent sizes.Small feces are not collected by litter, they return in previous place. After that you need to use regular scoop to remove them. If you use flashable filler, you’ll get super result – dream cat litter. You don’t need to scoop and smell all that stinky stuff.
Background: On recommendation from a friend, I purchased this Omega Paw litter box when I adopted a young cat. When I have lived with cats in the past, I have always been too lazy to clean out the litter box every day. This litter box has definitely made my life easier, and my cat’s life cleaner.
Using the litter box: The box works as advertised. I simply roll it over, the clean litter filters through the plastic grate on the side, and the clumps collect in the tray ready to be tossed out.
Issues: My cat is medium sized and I think if she were any larger she wouldn’t be able to use the box comfortably. This portion of the box that actually contains the litter is pretty small in size. Because of the small size I’ve had an instance where, after a couple of days of not sifting out the clumps, my cat has gotten mad and peed outside the box. In the future I may purchase the larger size box to give her more room.
The box quality isn’t top notch. When I assembled it I found some of the edges weren’t flush to each other. However I have had zero litter leaks between the seams when rolling the box. It may not be true for all boxes, but mine seems to work perfectly.
Overall: I would recommend this litter box for those who are a little squeamish about scooping poo or are lazy about scooping out litter boxes the old fashioned way. I change the box every day now because it is so easy. Happy owner + constantly clean box = happy cat.
What a great product! Works so much better than the electric litter box I paid $100.00 for. The cats like it better too.
This litterbox is a good buy for the price. Waaay cheaper than the automatic cleaners and much easier than traditional scooping. It works as described and my cat was very quick to jump in. My one issue is that about half the box it taken up by the cleaning grate so that my 3 month old kitten seems crowded inside, but he’s using it and seems happy enough. It does take a couple of good smacks to get all the clumps to fall and if the clips let loose there will be a huge mess but overall a good design.
One sidebar, I recently asked my brother to watch my cat for a weekend. He told me (in all seriousness) that he had trouble getting the litterbox to work “automatically”. He thought since it was called “self-cleaning” that it would clean the box electronically. HA
This litter box is wonderful! It’s so easy to use. The only thing about it is, where the cat goes to the bathroom, for larger cats they can’t fit themselves in the litter box very nicely. I use Nature’s Miracle litter and it works great with this litter box.
A much cheaper alternative to a self-cleaning litter box. The Omega Paw is a great design and works very well for my small-medium sized cat. Here are some Pro’s and Con’s:
PROS:
* privacy for kitty
* seems to trap some of the smell (although that kind of clumping litter you use also greatly affects this)
* really easy to collect all the clumps, just by rolling over on its side, and then pulling out the collection tray
* nice size and design, firs good in a corner. good weight, cat doesn’t move it around too much
* very easy to disassemble and clean – parts are small enough for this model to clean in your kitchen sink, I usually scrub it down once every few weeks. I haven’t found any stains yet and it always cleans easily with some disinfectant followed by some soapy water and a good rinse
CONS:
* When rolling and collecting / refilling some litter will escape onto the floor, which is inevitable.
* fresh clumps (mostly urine) sometimes will not “roll” into the collection tray so occasionaly yuou will have to do a little scraping still
* Also depends on what little you use, but litter is tracked from the box outside quite easily, so get a tread mat for the front
overall, definitely a good buy!
This liter box lived up to my expectations. No mess and no fuss, just roll it and empty out the dirty stuff. Very easy to maintain. I highly recommend it!
I got this litter box because of the raving reviews. I just needed another litter box for my 2 cats and thought I’d try it. I didn’t realize how much I would enjoy NOT having to use a litter scooper until I got this. After rolling, I pull out the tray and dump it into a Diaper-genie (which everybody should have for cat litter! We don’t even have kids but we have this for our 2 cats.)
The only problem I’m having is that sometimes the clumping litter sticks to the corners, so I’m going to try a different type of litter to see if that helps.
By the way, I couldn’t figure out what size box to get because nobody gave any advice on these reviews, so here’s my info: My 2 cats are 12.5lbs each and they fit in the regular size box fine. They don’t seem bothered, but their heads usually stick outside of the box a little.
It’s been about 3 weeks now, so here’s more info: The sticking is not so much the litter, but the kitties’ toilet habits. They like to pee at the corner on the side of the litter box that has the “vents” (see photo 2 of the pink box). When you turn the box 180-degrees clockwise the clean litter falls through the vents leaving only the clumps/solids to be caught by the pull-out tray. Their pee creates a giant clump with the vent in between it. You follow me? So i still have to clean the whole box every few days so I can remove the clumps that are left over on the “clean” side of the vent.
This product is easy to use and works well when cleaning out the litter box frequently. I have to be careful to check the clips before rolling the box over because sometimes they come lose and some litter spills out.
I give four stars because it is the best for the price. However, I just got the product so perhaps should not be reviewing it yet but I do have suggestions with things I had problems with. First of all, your instructions as to filling the box with new litter, how much litter, etc should be included in your package of instructins. I had to go back on line, and the way I got the info was not from you, but the reviews people wrote which were practical and answered some of my questions. Second, you must make your tabs stronger, they are too week and will not take opening or closing the box for cleaning too often. Your reviewer says because of the weak tabs he only opens to clean once a month! Also you only offered me one size and I notice some say regular is too small for some cats. I just assumed you would tell me if I needed a larger size. Why keep these things a secret, I would have paid extra for a larger size. Also I see different prices and no shipping charges in the initial ad, I paid shipping so what does free shipping in your introduction ad mean? I would suggest you take some of your reviewers’ comments and put them into an instruction page which you do not now provide. You leave us in the dark as to exactly how to roll and return, it is more than one time, how to clean without using tabs to open, what size to buy etc. This is the first product I bought that no instructions, other than assembly, were provided although I kept looking for them. I appreciate the final price but it also can costs more, and while I am not asking for expensive improvements, the product you sell should be as good as it can be, that is how you build your reputation. You let your customers down when you provide only the weakest of tabs which locks up the system and without which one cannot use the box! Also basic instructions as to rolling back and forth, cleaning without opening the box using the tabs, kind and amount of litter and adding litter, are required. After I put it together I was lost as to what to do next.
I will review again after I have used the box awhile. On the positive size it is a good looking box, much nicer than the open boxes. I just hope it cuts down on my having to sweep the floor after every use of litter the cat through out of the box!
But now I really like it a lot. I used a standard clumping litter in 2 of our 3 boxes at home. At first I was having an issue with large urine clumps being stuck to the side so they wouldn’t dump into the little tray. Took me a few days to figure out rolling it completely over and tapping it on the bottom in a few places would knock it loose and solve the problem. I usually have to roll it more than once to get it completely empty, but it still beats the heck out of the scooping.
In the 3rd I have the silica litter. That is really where this box shines. A quick roll over and back, dump the poo from the drawer and off you go! Unfortunately 2 stubborn cats cling to the clumping kind, so I will be tapping the bottom of the other 2 for sometime to come. But if your cat will switch to the silica kind, do it and get this box!
Like everyone who has a cat, I wanted a simple and clean alternative to the standard cat litter pan. I looked around, read the reviews, and decided to buy. I do not regret it one bit! This is a fantastic little device that’s SOOOO convenient I’m shocked. At first we were using Arm & Hammer litter, but it created a lot of dust when we rolled it over to collect waste, and have since switched to “Feline Pine,” which works way better.
The downsides:
1: Not enough “floor space” (the grate system takes up half of the width of this thing).
2: The clips are pretty flimsy (though I haven’t had any issues with them yet).
All in all though, a great product.
I just got a 12 week old kitten. I took a chance and decided to raise him in an apartment where space is rather limited. I was hesitant to buy the large Omega Paw box because I thought, “Well…he’s a kitten, the regular size box will work for about a year or so…” I really didn’t want to buy the big litter box until it was absolutely necessary. After all, my kitten is less than 4 pounds…I thought the regular litter box could handle that small of a kitty. I was mistaken.
My kitten is consistently stepping on his own feces when covering the mess up because the bathroom chamber is so small! I really wish I sprung for the bigger size. I probably will and soon.
I like the design and the ease of rolling the box to the side and having the drawer collect all the refuse. I use World’s Best Litter, which clumps, and it does a terrific job and it lasts a long time.
Overall, I am really impressed by this product but slightly disappointed by how small a regular box is.
This litter box is a vast improvement over my old traditional model. I recommend using it with crystals; they are much lighter so the box is easier to roll.
My complaints:
1) When rolling, fine clay litter will leak out of the seams. Switching to crystals negated this problem.
2) The trap is narrow enough that sometimes big clay litter clumps would scrape the sides when sliding it out, making a gross mess to wipe up. Again, using non-clumping crystals negated this issue.
3) The interior slats are too widely spaced, so sometimes the poop falls through with rest of the remaining litter.
Overall I would recommend this litter box. It’s much easier to use than a “stoop & scoop”, and unlike a fancier motorized unit, you can easily clean it in a few minutes with a garden hose.
This litterbox is a good product & easy to use, but after using the electric-type litterboxes for so many years, my cat has become very spoiled. I roll the box 3 times a day & that is just not good enough for her. She is 17 years old & is quite used to having a “clean” box when nature calls. I’m giving the Omega box to a friend who has always used manual litterboxes.
Love the ease of cleaning this cat box. The only draw back is the fit is tight for my large cat-the large size box would probably be a better fit.
It is wonderful to not have to shovel litter anymore! However, the manufacturer should affix better closures. These are awful. Still, the item is worth the effort!!!
This product works really well and makes it a lot easy to empty the litter on a regular basis. The only complaint that I have is it doesn’t hold as much litter as I am used to, so you have to add it more often.
We bought two of the large Omega Paws a while back just to try out after the LitterMaid robotic litterbox failed to live up to the hype. We were very happy with the results of those, so when we needed another litterbox in a smaller space we took a gamble and got this smaller one. When we put it together we were a little scared it wouldn’t be big enough for our larger cats but our 13 and 14 pound cats seem to delight in cramming themselves in it even with a varity of larger boxes they could use.
Cleaning is easy, just roll it over upside down, give a few quick knocks on the bottom, and roll it back and tip it towards the other side so the clean litter settles back where it belongs. We do have one cat that stands up while he’s going and gets the sides all wet and yes, that can be a mess, but the plastic cleans off easilly with the wipe of a damp paper towel so it’s still much easier than cleaning the floor around an uncovered box. When it’s time to throw out old litter and scrub the boxes you’d think these would be more trouble but the plastic in these seem a lot more “no stick” than all our other litterboxes so even with 4 pieces to clean they go just as fast.
If you have a lot of cats you really need to clean the boxes once a day, and adding a few of these will make that a lot easier. Because cats are finicky and some refuse to use hooded litterboxes I wouldn’t reccomend replacing *all* your litterboxes with these. And if you have the room and you’ve got cats that weigh more than 10 pounds it’s a good idea to get the larger size whenever you can. But if one cat just can’t stop marking somewhere that guests pass by a lot putting one of these little boxes there saves you a lot of trouble and keeps the mess neatly hidden from view.
This is an outstanding, ingenious litter box !After trying the “automatic self-cleaning” (good for nothing) and returned litter boxes…I once again decided to try a new litter box. This one is great ! I ordered the largest size for my 2 cats. You simply roll the litter box (and it’s not heavy) , then return it to the orginal position and the “clumps” are deposited in a nice tray , you simply pull out the tray and dipsose of the waste. There are no parts to wear out, no filters needed, no waste bags needed. It would get a 5 star rating if it had an auto-clean up on the litter the cats leave on the carpet after using the box. I don’t know why I don’t see these sold in stores.
I finally got tired of having to clean out my cat’s littler box every day, so I decided to get some kind of self-cleaning one. After some research I was all set to get the scoop free automatic one because it looks. At the last minute though I decided to see some other litter boxes because the one I wanted costs over $100 and it costs $75 for a 6 pack of cartridges that need to be replaced every month, so obviously that’s a very expensive litter box to buy and maintain. I was a little hesitant when I first saw it. This litter box isn’t very strong and it appears to be cheaply made. I filled it with litter and waited hours for my cat to use it so I could see how it works. She finally used it and I rolled it over and all of the poop went into the tray, just as it was suppose to. For some reason her pee always sticks to the bottom of the box, so I do have to use a scoop just to cover it with litter and detach it from the box (much better than my old method of trying to scoop it, which usually resulted in litter flying all over the place when the clump finally broke free). As some people have already said, I have no doubt that the cheap little plastic tabs will break off soon. Overall I’m a little disappointed with the quality of the litter box (I gladly would have paid $10-$20 more for a better made one), but it does get the job done and it is so much better than a standard litter box (even my husband will help me clean out the cat box now!). As some other people have pointed out, the part of the box available for the cat to use is much smaller than you’d think. Looking at the picture tha cat only gets the space directly behind the door. In the middle of the box is the sifter, so the cat won’t get all that much space inside, but my cat seems to be okay with that.
The product is really nicely designed. The only complaint I have is that I should have gotten the larger one. This one, in the picture, looks large enough, however about a third of the interior space (basically the entire right side of it) is taken up by the filtering pieces and waste disposal drawer. Other than that though this is a great product and is a real time and litter saver.
I have to say, I was a little skeptical that this could really work. But it did exactly what they said it would. Now my husband will even clean out the litter occasionally because it is so easy and hands off. It is a little small inside, but neither of my cats seem to mind. It isn’t a 100% perfect, and occasionally not all of the clumps make it (those are usually stuck to the bottom anyways). You can’t roll it too fast either or some loose litter will go into the scoop, so take it slow. Those aren’t really complaints other than just information for those who haven’t bought it yet. Go get it, it’s cheap and it works!!!
The bigger one would have been even nicer. but for one small cat works great.
I have a large cat, he is a Maine Coon, and this litter box was too tiny for him. You see, half the box that is pictured is the area where the litter clumps get put into when you turn it on its side. Therefore, your cat has only half the space you think he or she would. The design and concept is a great idea. I have a friend with a small cat and she loves it. My cat got dirty from not being able to properly move around and bury. I have since gotten a covered box with a built in sifter from Van Ness and it was a better fit for my cat.
This is a great idea – but read the directions for installation. I know that’s a dumb thing to say, but my daughter anxiously put it together, filled it with litter and let the kitten go in it. Then she realized the grate to sift the litter wasn’t inside the lid… Multiple calls and e-mails to OmegaPaws were fruitless, until I finally got through to a human who graciously said they’d send the missing part. So check the parts before you unwrap everything so that you can return it, rather than try to get through to customer service at OmegaPaws.
I like this one okay. Good points are the privacy and the idea. Bad points are that I end up having to get the scoop out anyway to get it all. Overall, I would recommend it.
I find that it is easier to empty the litter the “old fashioned” way …using the pull out drawer proved to be a hassel. However, I do like the design, the privacy and the spaciousness that Piper enjoys and so I am not sorry that I bought it.
Works good as long as you clean it a few times a day. If it gets dirty…it gets really dirty!
We have 2 cats, one is quite petite and the other is large. This size is too small for both. It would be fine for my small cat if only she would TURN AROUND after she gets in. Unfortunately she only did this SOMETIMES… the other times her back end was out the door, so puddles and poo were on the floor! I like the concept, the roll-and-clean feature works great, but it is just too small. It takes up a bit of floor space but inside the business area is very cramped. If your cat is small and gets the concept of actually going all the way in, then turning around to face out before doing her business, this might be fine for you. We are trying the large, hopefully that will solve the problem. Otherwise it’s back to the electric Littermaid.
This is one of those YMMV things (your mileage may vary). There are alot of people who love it and some who don’t. I have to say I really did not care for this litter box.
-The litter falls out through the cracks on the sides because the clips do not hold the top nd bottom together very tightly. It was also way too small for my cats. I have a cat who is has some mental retardation from a near death experience on the operating table. He had a real problem fitting in it and would end up just sticking his butt out and end of peeing on the floor.
-Not all the clumps would fall into the drawer. Then I would have to clean it out with a scooper.
-You can only fill it with a small amount of litter or else when you turned it on its side the litter falls out the opening. The clumps then have a greater chance of sticking to the litter box and not falling through the grill.
I think this has potential, especially if it were bigger and the bottom and hood fit snuggly. From the reviews it obviously works for some people, just not for me. I will continue looking for the litter box of my dreams.
I saw this litter box online, and thought it sounded like a smart idea. However, it turns out to be less practical than I had hoped.
1. The clips that attach the hood to the base are very poorly constructed, so each time I roll the box, litter pours out of the seams and all over the floor.
2. The waste tray doesn’t quite fit the space properly, so clumps will often roll into the space at the end, or underneath the tray. This means I have to re-roll to catch clumps on a second attempt.
3. If you roll too soon after your cat has used the litter tray (and there’s a wet clump in there) the clump will stick to the grill, requiring some unpleasant cleaning!
4. It’s quite small, so if you have a larger cat then it will be a tight squeeze. My orange tabbies do fit in there, but only just.
Overall, I would not recommend this product. I now use it like a regular litter tray, just taking the lid off and scooping it, instead of trying to roll it. I find that it’s less work that way.
The main problem I have with this litterbox is that my cat moves the litter around and does her business directly on the bottom of the box. When you roll it, some clumps stick to the bottom and the only way to get them off is to pound on the bottom of the box until the clumps come loose. I also purchased the litter mat that works with this box, and although there is litter on the mat, it’s getting tracked through the entire room and that’s quite gross. So I am not as impressed as I thought I would be. Also, this can be in no way a self cleaning litterbox. Something such as a Littermaid is way more self cleaning than this one. The regular Omega litterbox (RA15) is quite small and needs to be rolled and emptied every couple of days with one cat. With a Littermaid litterbox and only having one cat, I only needed to dump the receptacle once a week. After having owned a Littermaid for two years prior to buying this one, I think the Littermaid works better. I never used liners with my littermaid, I used plastic grocery bags with the receptacles. My only complaint with uncovered litterboxes is that litter still gets scattered outside of the box. I did go through one Littermaid Cabana and one Littermaid tent (both poorly made and neither didn’t hold up). So I read the reviews on the Omega Paw and sold my Littermaid on ebay. I miss it dearly. This one creates more work than what other reviewers are saying.
Not what expected at all. Requires a large area for tilting and even after providing this it doesn’t do what it says. I never got the clumps to collect in the removable tray. Very disappointing, I ended up using it as regular litter box with a cover.
it says that you just turn it on the side and it will sift the litter, this is true. but it does not mention what a mess it makes. the waste drags along the side so the inside of the box gets so dirty the cats won’t use it. I have to clean it almost every other day b/c the smell gets really bad. also, there is not much room in there for the cats.
it is self cleaning, meaning i have to wash it myself to keep it clean.
i don’t recommend spending the money. You end up having to clean it out all the time any, there isn’t much of a difference from scooping out of the old ones. I still have to deal with the mess. If you want a good one buy the automatic littermate one. i have that one now it it’s great.
The product was delivered in 2 days, which was wonderful. Unfortunately, it is cheaply made, dumps dirty litter on the floor while trying to clean it, and lets odors smell througout your home.
I have used the Omega Paw for about 3 months. I am now throwing it away. Here is why:
1)just like a traditional litter box, urine can get caught and solidified in the corners. The Omega Paw makes this worse because it can get gummed up against the grating fins. That means you have to take the whole thing apart.
2)The box and fins get progressively disgusting as waste builds up.
3)partially dried urine gets gummed up in the track that holds the fins
4)it gets points off for daring to call itself a self-cleaning litter box. You still have to maintain it just as much as any traditional box.
Pros: You can be more lazy about cleaning the thing. Using its rolling action, you can avoid most hand-scooping.
Cons: the above mentioned congealed urine in the fins problem.
I tried 2 kinds of litter: Arm and Hammer (which controlled odor well, but liked to congeal) and Cat Atract (which didnt congeal as much but stank quickly).
So I rank this 2 stars because I would not get it again or suggest it to someone else.
At first I thought this litter box was great, but then I realized it wasn’t all that great when I had to take it apart and clean the whole thing. My cat sprays on the inside of the box and the rolling action of the self cleaning feature created a coat of clumping litter on the inside of the box as well as odor. So while I thought I was getting off easy with the cleaning- I actually was creating a HUGE cleaning headache for myself…the grill inside was a nightmare to clean! (Even if your cat does not spray remember not to roll the box until after the clumping litter has hardened otherwise you will get sticky litter stuck to the grill.) I went back to a regular litterbox, litter made from wheat and daily litterbox patrol. I’d say I don’t do anymore work now than I did when I used this self cleaning litter box. When looking at reviews for this product make sure it is from someone who has used it for at least a month- because I know the first few weeks you’ll think you found a gold mine and then you realize cleaning a litterbox still requires work!
I was a little disapointed with this Litter Box, but I don’t regret purchasing it because my frustrations with it was the push I needed to buy a Litter Robot (Which I LOVE!!!). Anyway, I found this litter box very messy. Everytime I rotated it upside down to “filter” the litter, a handful of litter would always pour through the crack between the bottom part of the litter box and the top part and get all over the floor. I didn’t mind this at first because I was just happy I didn’t have to scoop the litter, but after a while I found this very annoying and inconvenient. It was enough of a spill that I had to bring the vacuum out to clean it up. If they did a better job of “sealing” the unit so it wouldn’t spill, I would probably give this box a 4-star rating instead.
I read all the positive reviews and hoped for the very best, but was disappointed. I’m basically using this box like any other covered box – removing the top, scooping out messes, adding litter and replacing the top. The bad doesn’t get seperated from the good as it should, so I still have to do it myself. Oh well…
I’ve had mine for a week and it ain’t what its cracked up to be. Cannot get the top to fully lock down therefore I am unable to “Self clean”. For a normal litterbox – which this is essentially is because of the problem – it is WAY overpriced.
This litter box was great for about a month. It seemed so easy – just flip it over and pull out the pan. BUT then when you have to physically clean it with Soap and water and it’s a mess. TOO many parts. The litter area is too small for even a medium size cat to fit in. I threw it out today.
After reading rave reviews of this box on epinions, we purchased one (the large size) and found that the box had more problems than solutions. The reviews touch on some of the problems we have had, such as breaking plastic snaps, litter sneaking out through the seams as you roll the box, litter sticking to the sides and bottom, and trouble with maintaining just the right level of litter to solve the problems, etc. We tried one of the reviewer’s suggestions of adding bolts and wing nuts to secure the top while rolling, but since the sifting mechanism cannot accommodate loose stools or stuck urine, you’re going to need to take the top off frequently and more easily than can be done once it’s bolted. We currently have three additional conventional covered litter boxes in use which, used with the right litter (World’s Best–great stuff!), are much easier to clean than this one, and don’t require the extra floor space to “roll” them. We bought the box through RadioFence.com and called to ask if their “money back guarantee” (”If you are dissatisfied with any product for any reason”) would apply here but of course it would not if the box has been defecated in. (how else would you know if it works?) DO NOT BUY THIS BOX IF YOUR CAT SUFFERS FROM IBS or ever has any kind of diarreah or loose stool–it will stick all over the grate and get inside of the mechanism. Our five indoor-only cats are all very clean, and some of them just didn’t want to use this box, possibly because of the sifting mechanism taking up so much of the interior. In the end, the box takes up more room to operate, makes more mess, and is more difficult to clean than regular boxes so we are just going to have to take the loss ($44.99 with mat on RadioFence.com) and buy another regular box to replace this one.
Bottom Line:
More hassle to clean than scooping of conventional box. Requires floor space to perform “roll.” Top breaks off when rolling, must be taken off to clean out what sifter misses, such as soft stools and urine that get stuck.
It is possible that I could just not find the best litter to work with this product; however, I tried many. This product worked okay with fine litters, but not at all with clay or crystal litters. This was a big fat waste of money; go to WalMart or a discount store and just get a covered litter box for $5.
The people who rate this box high must work for the company. I don’t like this box one bit. It was easy enough to assemble but to clean the litter you have to roll it all the way over practically upside down and when you do, the clay dust floats up and out of the front, even when gently rolling it. My cat is 8 lbs, she eats IAMS or Science Diet food and her poops are small but they do not all go into the cup when you roll it over, some fall through that grate on the side and you have to scoop them out by hand. Use your logic – how can you roll a box 3/4 turn – practically onto its top (as recommended by vendor) and expect this to work as stated. When my cat pees, she scrapes the litter to make a hole for herself and the pee sticks to the bottom of the box, it does not loosen when you roll it – so again, scoop it by hand.
SAVE YOUR MONEY – if you hate to scoop, the best stuff I found so far is a regular litter box but fill it with 2″ of the Fresh Scoop CRYSTALS – they absorb pee so you never have to scrape pee off the bottom and the poop may not clump into a ball of clay but if lifts right out. All you have to do with crystals is rake them so the distribute them and you can do that when you scoop out the poop every day. Change the crystals, completely empty and refill with another 2″ every 2 weeks according to directions because they do absorb pee but they do not stink up the way clay does.
Bottom line is you spend more time rolling the thing over and back – waiting to let the litter fall back through the grate and then shaking the box to even the distribution of litter and then you still have to empty the poop container anyway. Save time and your money and just scooping out a little poop every day. This box is not worth the $$$. Get the Fresh Scoop CRYSTALS instead.
I bought this based on the high reviews – and the concept. It seems like this is what I needed. It was easy to put together. My kitties took a few days to get used to it – but did use it afer awhile so that was not the issue. It worked well the first few days – but basically stopped working after about a week. The poop and pee-balls didn’t go into the tray and stayed in the main litter compartment. The little drawer-tray filled with clean litter intead. So I ended up removing the pieces and using it as a regular litter box. So . . . don’t waste your money!
This box absorbs odors after a week!! So for indoor use, it makes the house stink like dirty catbox. It’s too much bother to scrub the box, and liners won’t work with the box size or the rolling. The rollover action works well enough, but too many finer clumps are left behind to keep the litter fresh. I got rid of the box after two weeks of use.
Get a regular catbox, liners, and use the new clumping litter with crystals–it works very well. Otherwise, plain crystals is the best for odor control.
I only used this for a few days. Was trying to make it easier on my roommate while I was on vacation. The cats shunned it because it was way too small for them. The unit does not work as advertised. It spills easily making constant huge messes and does not filter waste as advertised. Don’t waste your time and hard-earned money.
You might as well buy a regular litterbox. This omega is actually messier than a regular litterbox. When you turn it, litter goes all over the floor. The box that collects the clumps gets full after 2 or 3 uses, depending on how much your cat goes. I have 4 cats and he box itself is too small for 3 of my cats to fit in. It has to be turned every single time your cat goes otherwise the clumps do not fit into the collection box. The grill gets sticky and gummy and has to be manually cleaned at least once a day. I used mine for about 5 days before I threw it in the dumpster out back. I didnt even offer to give it to anyone because it was worthless. Oh, I used ther “premium” clumping litter and it made no difference.
This litter box looks good and has good intensions but is messy to use and really makes more work and than just scooping the box. Would not recomend this product.
Only a small kitten would fit in this one. Get the extra large one to be safe.
All I have to say is that after a few weeks, one of the clips broke and when we rotated the box to empty the litter… litter POURED out onto the floor. Huge mess. And the drawer and surrounding part got poop covered pretty quick. Waste of money. Sorry. Concept sunded nice.
After reading the wonderful reviews and all the stars this product received, I too purchased this. I wanted my cat to have a litter box with a dome for privacy and loved the idea of not having to scoop the litter pan each day.
First, when I received it, it was, ofcourse, cheaply made. It does not look like it will last very long with all the turning you have to do each day. Second, the mesh that allows the clumps to go into the pull out drawer is so small that my cat’s huge clumps will not go through.
The first try, I noticed that the only thing that got collected in the pull out drawer was the litter itself. The clumps stayed behind. The more I tried, the more litter was collecting and the clumps would not go through. I inspected and came to realize that the small vent holes are just to small for even a small clump. Her stoll will not even fit so how can it go through for collecting and disposing?
Bottom line, the reviewers are either on something, or permanently insane. I am returning this item and suggest that NO ONE THROW THEIR MONEY AWAY ON THIS PRODUCT. This is false advertisement and no one should stand for it. Unless you have a miniature cat the size of a hamster, then this product is okay because the stoll will definitely fit. But cats are not that tiny and their stools are not going to fit through the tiny vented holes. Look at it carefully; it doesn’t take an engineering degree to figure that one out
DON’T BE STUPID IN BUYING THIS PRODUCT AND DON’T BELIEVE THESE REVIEWERS. Most of the reviewers say they still have to scoop the litter box yet they rate it a four or five star. Very smart you guys!!! If you have to scoop the litter box, then get a regular litter box and don’t pay extra for something that does not work. Let’s have some common sense here.
If I could give it a 0 star, I would, but I had to give it one star. It deserves no star.
Great concept, but as others have pointed out, the execution is flawed. The item is huge but usable space for the cats is cramped so our two weren’t very fond of it (and these aren’t fussy cats). Unless you roll it several times a day, the scoop drawer overflows and spills litter all over as you pull it out, so you have to hold a garbage bag under it when emptying. The plastic fasteners holding the unit together were weak and easily slid into the unlocked position, so we narrowly avoided a few disasters until we learned to double check them each time we rolled it. We’d read numerous glowing reviews of this product and ended up being so disappointed that we went back to a conventional litter box after a few weeks. Less hassle for us, and the cats were happier. No wonder the price keeps dropping…. I’d love to see them (or someone else) improve on it – perhaps I’d try “Version 2.0″.
My cats hated the tiny entryway. The scoop always spilled. We wound up taking the top off and never using it. Don’t waste the $$.
It sits in my garage as its worthless. My cat is small and has a hard time making it in the box and the mess is more than a regular cat box and you best wear a mask when you roll it or the cat litter dust goes all over the place. Was very disappointed in this product
I had high hopes for this item. There are three cats in my household and I thought this would be a better way of cleaning up behind them, but unfortunately, it is not. The time it takes to turn the box on its side to shift the loose litter into the holding tray at the bottom in order for the larger clumps to fall into the pull out tray is time consuming and too much effort. It was much easier scooping it out in a regular litter box tray without the hassle. Also, the side clamps are not secure enough to keep litter from oozing out the sides onto the floor for additional clean up. This is not what I expected it would be better to get an automatic litter box cleaner.
I thought this was going to be a great litter box, however, I found out that it is not. The box is small and you have to tip the whole box over and bang on the bottom, which is now the top in order to get all the waste unstuck. This is cumbersome and a pain in the neck to use. I find that this litter box is more work than the old fashioned sift it yourself kind of litter box. I got rid of this litter box after only 2 weeks of using it and went back to their old box.
Don’t do it. This kitty box is a great idea but extremely poorly executed. It spills litter all over the place when you rotate it (the clips don’t hold the top on tight enough) and if you overfill it you end up with a scoop full of perfectly good litter that you have to dispose of. In addition, the box is small so cats generally will track more litter onto the floor than they would with smaller boxes. Even if you use a kitty rug, as suggested by some other readers, your bathroom will soon look like a disaster zone.
Not worth the money or effort.
What a waste of money. Cat will not use with cover on. Does not clean itself. Only used for a couple days.
